For the next few days we rented bikes and a surfboard for Philippe. That way we could visit Cox Bay with its beautiful beach brake! Tofino is full of young people who like to surf or go whale or bear watching, kayaking or fishing.
We had cold nights though (around 12 degrees celsius) but we loved it!
After an interesting Ferry ride to Vancouver island we found out that there's still six kilometers to overcome to finally get to the bus station of Nanaimo. So we tryied hitch hiking and a very friendly lady picked us up and brought us all the way to the bus station! After a short visit of Nanaimo we went off to Tofino. We arrived at eleven o'clock at night and were droped off in darkness somewhere close to the campground. With the headlamp we managed to find our place somewhere in the darkness. The tent was build up in a few seconds and all was stored in front of the entrance of the tent... e very bad thing to do, when there's food inside and wild animals are around... but we were too tired to bother. So in the middle of the night we had our first encounter with a wild animal, a racoon, which found our cookies and rambled all night long with the rastling papercover and its tasty content just next to our tent somewhere in the woods... what a night. But hey, we have learned to store our food somewhere outside far away from the tent. It could as well have been a bear looking for something to eat...
