Day 3 Memphis, TN to Hot Springs, AR

Today turned out to be a really good day. I can't really say what gave it away that it would be a good day but it was as I was starting to feel by about 7:30 this morning.  I just had a feeling.  We were up way too early in the morning and I got a running start.  We headed down to the ticket center at Graceland and they started selling tickets at 8:30.  We were on the 9am bus to Graceland where we were given our headset to wear around the house and grounds to explain things.  We decided to get the platinum tour since it included the cars and planes as well as Graceland and some other exhibits.  As we toured the grounds I started feeling slightly transported to the 60's.  Very much 60's decor which was how it was when he lived there, it just made things seem different.  He had a very elaborate house for the time period, however, today I am sure the TV and other things that made Graceland seem so elaborate people would just say yeah everybody has those.  Anyway, as we started through the house I really just didn't get.  It wasn't until the meditation ground that this strange feeling hit me.  I really can't explain it, it just felt really weird.  Now let me explain the meditation garden is where Elvis's twin brother is buried along with his grandmother and parents and Elvis.  Thus that might explain the really eerie feeling I had.  Unfortunately Flash photography is not allowed due to the fact that over time flashes can damage materials, thus I have very few photos that actually look decent.  After the tour of the grounds was done we went to the Lisa Marie and Hound dog II airplanes and got a look at his elaborate personal airplanes.  Which were again very elaborate for the time period.  My question here is how did they get the planes into what is now downtown Memphis?  The automobile display has his classic cars including a pink Cadillac and a purple Cadillac.  I did finally get the answer to 2 questions we had had.  1. the reason people think that Elvis is not dead is that the name on his grave is not spelled correctly, the name is spelled Elvis Aaron Presley, the legal name is Elvis Aron Presley, however Elvis never did get the name changed and on the original grave approximately 4 miles away the first grave was spelled as it is legally but when he was moved by his father, his father had them spell it as Elvis had always wanted it spelled.  Question 2- before the ticket sales started people were walking on the grounds of Graceland without tickets, and the answer reflects back to question 1 being that in order for them to get Elvis and his brother and parent moved to Graceland they had to get a section declared a cemetery, thus they have to allow visiting access to the cemetery for 1 hour each day free of charge, that is 7:30-8:30 am people can walk on to the grounds of Graceland to visit the King of Rock n Roll.  So this was the education of Dawn in regards to the life of Elvis Presley.
So after seeing Graceland we left Memphis and headed to Little Rock, Arkansas.  Upon arrival we went to visit the Presidential Library of William Jefferson Clinton.  As we went in we saw the first limo constructed specifically for the use by President Clinton in 1993 for his daily use.  We then watched a short video on the Presidency of Bill Clinton; it was amazing to see some of the good stuff he did, not looking at the negative stuff.  They had dresses from the first ladies there that were worn at the lighting of the national Christmas tree, they had artifacts from early childhood for both Bill and Hillary, and they had an area for all the different tokens that had been presented to him, including a section on the first dog and cat.  We saw a replica of the oval office which had some of the actual items that were in the oval office and the cabinet room showing the seating for the cabinet room.  It gave me some insight into what all the presidents do.  They had in the library the itineraries for everyday of the presidency.  I even got to see the notes and itinerary from when President Clinton was in Champaign Urbana Illinois at the University of Illinois my senior year.  That also happens to be when Air force one got stuck at Willard Airport in Savoy, IL.  God I will never forget that.  They also had an exhibit on artifacts from the presidency from various presidents including signed letters by Thomas Jefferson.  They had a sculpture that depicted George HW Bush with a sword up Sadam Hussains back side, and the actual tree of lights that Hillary had created for the White House.  After that we went downtown to the Library Gift Shop and I found the book Hillary wrote that was Dear Socks, Dear Buddy, letters kids had wrote to the first pets and I got 2 bandana's for Figgy and Fridge that say "First Dog".  I told mom how appropriate for the dogs after all they do live in the "White" House.  After we left Little Rock we headed to Hot Springs, Arkansas.  We ordered out for pizza and I got to have Papa John's.  God, I miss Papa John’s pizza.  Tomorrow we are going into Hot Springs national park to explore and relax in the springs and then go dig for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park.
