Today was a busy day, we got up early, Colin took his shower, and we ate breakfast to make it to the Marshall Space and Rocket Center and Home of Space Camp. We arrived there and got our passes to get in, once there we got Colin's Flight suit and his clothing package and were off to find the geocache there at Space Camp. Once we found the cache and dropped off the purchases at the truck we went in and explored the museum and rocket park.
We went on the G-Force where we experienced 4 G's as we got spun around in a centrifuge, Colin climbed on the rock wall of Olympus Mons, the deepest valley on Mars, and explored the all the different rockets in the park and checked out the space shuttle, Saturn 5, Saturn 1, the Apollo Capsule Trainer, the Apollo 16 capsule the Space Shuttle trainer where you can fly the shuttle and land it. After that being said and done we went and checked in for space camp, got our sheets and went and made our bunks in the habitat, and went out to the truck to get our gear. After doing that we put on our flight suits and prepared for the next 3 days of astronaut training.
The first thing that occurred with the start of Space Camp was orientation, after that we went and got our team picture taken and then we went to see "Fly Me to the Moon" in 3D. The kids really liked the movie and I think the adults did as well, at least this adult did. Once we did that the kids of Gemini 5 went of to construct their secret mission and the adults went and did theirs.
With that done it was supper time we all gathered in the cafeteria and had spaghetti and then headed off for the first training. Today's training were the multi-axis trainer (simulates the space craft is out of control and the 5DF (which stands for the 5 degrees of freedom). Those were cool, allot of the kids were unsure of the MAT but in the end all thought it was pretty cool.
After that was done we had a little history lesson on the space shuttle and the mercury and Gemini programs. Did I mention that we were team Gemini. We then went and constructed our model rockets. Colin named his rocket Pikachu and I named mine the Right Stuff.
It was then time to prepare for bed and get ready for another busy day in the life of an astronaut,
