Vacation Day 13
July 14, 2008
Skagway, Alaska to the Inside Passage

Today, was the final day of Skagway, and now the voyage begins for the next 5 days we will be aboard the Alaska Marine Highway System.

This morning started almost the same as usual with the exception of noises that woke me up, the one day I can sleep in and I get woke up by strange noises. So any way, we are up and running getting things packed and working our way up to breakfast. After breakfast, I took a break from hanging out with the family and explored the streets of town and on my own and just goofed off. Meanwhile the parentals were working on doing the laundry that needed to be done. This being said, we have not seen the sun in 5 days, while it has not managed to rain at all, it has been very windy and cold, with temperatures really so to speak never getting out of the 50's. Truthfully, I am not so much sun burnt as I am wind burnt. My theory is that we not be able to identify what day of the week it is by what we are wearing as most of our cold weather clothes are getting washed and worn daily.
This morning we went gold panning from a tour in skagway, and we did end up finding gold. I found like 5 little nuggets. Which we got to keep. Any way gives me a new prospective on what these miners actually did and what they were looking for. It is actually fairly hard work. So anyway, I have my little vial of gold that I found which is really awesome.

After that the parentals, went back to finish up the laundry before we boarded the ferry to Bellingham, WA. Once that was done and clothes were put up, we went to the Red Onion Saloon for lunch and did a tour of the "Bravel" above the saloon where the girls lived. Anyway kind of interesting some of the stories behind the building.
We finished off exploring town and our now sitting in the van in line at the ferry terminal watching our ferry come into dock. We will board the ferry at 4 and depart Skagway at 5pm. We will get off in Ketchikan and change ferries for the remainder of the trip and head out on the Columbia to Bellingham Wa.

The next five days should be some of the most peaceful days just sitting back and relaxing on the back of the ship watching scenery and wildlife go by. See you all in the lower 48 Friday. And as we sit here and wait for the other vehicles to unload before we load, I see Chris. Well, this should truly make for an interesting voyage.
