We haven't written anything here for a while now, but for a long time there was not anything new to write about. After the tour to Blue Mountains we returned to Newcastle where we decided to wait for Rainer. We had also bought tickets back home at the end of May. Since our flight goes from Perth and Rainer and Ermo were planning to go to Perth to find work, we decided to drive there all together.

The time in Newcastle went really fast- Kaupo working for the hostel and Renate working on her tan J We passed by our days by going to the beaches, playing pool and table tennis and watching a loads of movies. In the beginning of April the weather started getting colder and it was time to move on.

So on April 10th we started with our 12 000 km journey. Our plan is to drive up the east coast all the way to Cairns, then on the north coast to Darwin and then through Broome to Perth.  After the first day drive we decided to camp on a secluded beach. There was a cave, which was just big enough for our tent. We grilled sausages, potatoes and admired the stary sky.

Our first planned stop was Coffs Harbour- an idyllic small harbor town. There we visited the Pet Porpoise Pool. It is a water complex for fish and other sea creatures. We saw a show with seals and dolphins. It feels rather unbelievable to watch a seal balance a ball on his head, pick up trash and throw it into a trash-can or watch dolphins jump out of the water doing saltos. After the show we could touch the dolphins, feed some fish and also feed a type of small penguins.

After Coffs Harbour we drove to Byron Bay, which is a laid- back town with beautiful beaches, lighthouse and relaxed atmosphere. After getting there, we hit the beach right away. The beaches are as if from a book- the sand is white, water is crystal- clear and everything is clean. And the beaches stretch for many kilometers. We also did the must- do walk around the lighthouse, which offered amazing views. During the walk we visited the most eastern point of Australia.

Next was the Gold Coast. We spent there 2 days and we crashed at the house of one friend of Rainer’s and Ermo’s.  On the first day we spent whole day on a beach, with lots of swimming and grilling. In the evening we were invited to a party at one art gallery, which turned out to be a new and nice experience. On the other day we visited the famous Surfers Paradise, which turned out to be a town that is all tourist oriented. Besides there weren’t so many surfers neither did it look like a paradise.  In Gold Coast our group got even bigger. The new member is a volleyball, which is called (obviously) Wilson!
