Frankfurt!
Entry 2 of 27 | show all | print this entry |
Hello From Frankfurt!
Well I made it half way and out of boredom pulled out my laptop and sure enough it connected to the internet!! Wahoo!
The flight went well, nothing too eventful. I got picked up at the hotel and went straight to the airport. The shuttle driver was really cool, he was from El Salvador and we jammed to his brother's band. He actually gave me a copy of the CD! He was so interested in what I was about to do and his 7th grade English teacher was a Peace Corps Volunteer. He told me about how in love he was with her and all about her. Where she lived, what she did, why she was weird. I guess I will make more of an impact on people than I realize. I hope people will talk about me like that when I leave.
I was lucky enough to get the middle seat on my flight to Frankfurt! It was actually not that bad, I just made the best of the situation and was able to sleep quite a bit. Usually they have personal TVs, but this time they only had the ones in the exit rows....oh well. Harry Potter was the movie, I only saw about 20 minutes but it was the last. So I now know the ending and feel content enough to never have to watch any more of the movies! I never quite got into that whole thing.
So i am sitting here in the airport next to an old German eating his morning roll and jelly. He is pretty cute. I forgot how much fun it can be to just sit around and just watch people all the time. Everyone does everything differently but we get to the same place I guess.
I forgot how many people smoke in Germany. Seriously, I step off the plan and it was exactly that smell. I was just like, "yep, I am back in Germany." My German officially sucks, people are almost just speaking to me in English. So much for that language. I guess I will just concentrate on Turkmen, it is just as useless.
So I will be in Ashgabat tomorrow! I can't belive it. I guess I will have to interview for my positions right when I get off the plane. I am going to be so far behind in the recovery process than everyone else, I am kinda jealous of them. I just hope I will get to sleep a little bit.
It really hasn't hit me at all that I am really going on this for two years. For all i know I am sitting in an American airport and I can bust out my cell phone at any time. I really was blown away that I was able to get on the internet here. Wifi ROCKS! Who knows, maybe I will get internet in Turkemnistan. That would be hilarious if I got WiFi in Turkmenistan. hahahhahha. Doubt it.
I keep having urges to call all my German friends and tell them I am back in Germany. I don't know why, not like I could really talk to them or anything, but being back here is like going down memory lane. The coffee cups even make me laugh. I am interested to see what the Turkmen culture will stick with me. I just hope they don't smoke as much....
Ok, well I hope all is well with you all. I noticed today that I forgot of all things a watch. Travelling without a watch is a talent. Although you never have to figure out what time zone you are on to change it, it makes it hard to figure out how much longer you have to sit and kill time.....
only 4 more hours to kill.
Love from the other side of the world....
