Kitchen lock-up
Entry 9 of 32 | show all | print this entry |
Girl Julie from Holland and me got locked up in the kitchen by the scare crow. Talked to her and Lee (my roommates) on the train ride to Jackson (red el line). Public transport is as good here as it is in New York, fast, reliable, and cheap. Many museums have special offers for travelers or there is even free entrance once a week. Bear in mind, though, that you still have to lock up your backpack or bag and jacket, and that will cost you 75 cents. That's too much money for some of us to check out an art museum. After all, walking down Michigan Ave is a beautiful hike on a nice sunny day.
So I went and took pictures, asked my way to Lincoln Park Zoo and met a psychological counseling person who is looking for a job (in Lincoln Park? Veeery suspicious!). We were chatting all the way to the park and at one point, he asked me whether I kept a journal and if I'd made any revelations lately. He probably expected some deep psychological, philosophical or even spiritual revelation. But the only thing that came to my mind (he really was weird) was, "Watch your wallet!" and he left me alone after that.
I soon learned why Lincoln Park Zoo was free: it is about the most pitiful thing I've ever seen. It's worse than jail. It made me sick to my stomach to see these animals' suffering and I wished there was some sort of universal language to tell these creatures just how sorry I was. I wonder how many people feel that same way when they witness this slow deterioration of animals licking away at their own death. It made my day. The walk along the beach was nice, though, and brightened up my spirits. This lake is so enormous it looks like an ocean.
