It got freezing cold at night, had to get up at 3 in the morning and drive round for 45 minutes to get some heat going in the car and then ended up leaving altogether at 5. Later in the day I found a scenic reserve by a river that provided ample ground for another two-hour sleep on the back seat in much warmer conditions. Slept snug with one of the doors open and part of me hanging out of the car :o). When I woke up, there were people walking their dogs and folks on bikes going past my car. In New Zealand, sleeping in your car is no problem at all. People won't even look, not even during the day. I don't think they actually noticed me in there until I woke up because they looked startled then. I went to the river and found a sandy patch flat and wide enough for my spread-out sarong. Picnic time!! And I took most amazing pictures of cattle and fog weaving into the first warm rays of the sun at dawn and later, I walked across a cemetery just after 6. And now there's a circular halo around the sun, vast in parameter, encompassing everything, awe-inspiring.
Wellington, windy city (20-22). I'm staying at Trekkers, a hostel that looks like a hotel and will soon be just that. Wellington is a hilly hip town, driving is not as bad as in Auckland but parking is a problem. Luckily, my hostel has a parking lot and my single is 22 dollars, can't beat that. Great to catch up with my sista who's been here for a week, staying with a "Mr. Hubba hubba hot looove". :o)
