Pompej is the one and only guided tour we booked. We hadn't been to Pompej yet, so we figured it'd be nice to have someone around to tell us what we're looking at and to give some background information as well. Well, we pretty much could have saved ourselves the $$ and gone by ourselves, because everything is well sign-posted, not to say self-explanatory. Bath houses, colons, vases, urns, walls, victims of volcanic eruptions, streets.

And the only building that contained some artistry (say, graphic paintings) was a bordello. We, and about two hundred other tourists, were rushed through this tiniest of buildings (or remnants of the same), looked left and right at some blotches of paint and that was that. No secrets were unveiled. We did find CAVE CANEM out of our Latin books (Mom and I both suffered through five or six levels of Latin) and the bones of a poor puppy that was surprised by a volcanic eruption, also out of my Latin book.
