I was studying Guarani last night at my kitchen table and trying to figure out how to translate something from Spanish to Guarani when my host sister in law and her two kids showed up to eat there MOZORELLA pizza alllll the way from Asuncionnnnnnnnn...they wanted to share some of this special cheese with me, even though I had already eaten a million and one tortillas and about five avocoados, I, Cati had to try the mozzarella....

Sooo, pizza is a bakin´ and I am studying and I soon find my sister in law standing over me with....soon she is literally leaning over me with both hands on the table in front of me nodding her head and going, ¨no, no Cati, es eso, no es esta, no, si si.....¨ and then she took my pen and was correcting...and then just stood there watching me work...Now, most of you know that my BIGGEST pet peeve is having people read over my shoulder...oh, this was a whole new level....i practiced patience for about five minutes before trying out my new paraguayan indirectness...just as she was getting the hint she started pulling at my bra... and saying something in Guarani and pointing and laughing... I was like, ok ok... then her seven year old daughter pulled at my neon green bra and literally pulled it out of my shirt and I was rashy as ever at this point and beyond confused as i screamed what are you doing...i have a bra, let´s move on...not until then did i notice a MASSIVE insecto was in my bra doing a little insect dance... pulled it out and yeah......sigh....

this morning the embarassment continued... i woke up at 555 to meet my friend to run just after 6, i was clearly running late as i went to open my door and realized that during yesterday´s massive rain storm my host mom had stuffed newspaper under my door, which was now wet and had morphed into a sort of GLUE, so the door was stuck and i couldn´t dig out the wet newspaper, as i was yanking away and digging at the door with my key the doorknob on the other side flew off and rolled down my patio to the feet of my host mom who was doing her morning sweep and mate sipping routine and screaming, CATI, QUE HACES....finally i squeezed my bum out the door just looked at her because i couldn´t form any words and took off on my run...when i got home i decided to turn a new leaf just as i opened the bathroom door ON AND INTO my host brother, at that poin my host mom came over and said it was not the day for katrina...ha, i could only laugh......

so enough about that.

What else have I been up to?

Last Friday I went to visit, observe and learn about Special Education in Pguay, I sat in on a class with another girl in my group, this week we are heading back for the third time to observe the evening classes, where there are more disabled youth and hopefully the following week we will be able to organize an event or game...i´ll fill ya in.

We have our swearing in ceremony in April, so i went to teh local modista )clothes maker= and picked out my fabric and was fit for a dress!!! i´m v. excited to see how it turns out...the material and style is not anything i would wear at home, but i think it will be just perfecto para pguay.

I´ve been here for just under 5 weeks and I´m finally feeling totally at ease in my little town and I know my way around everyhwere and who has teh best cheese, the best empanada, the best everything...took me a little longer with the family change and all, but this place is truly amazing.  For instance, the other night I was walking home from yoga and it was a little passed dusk when i heard a squeaky bike approaching and then i heard a little voice say hola katrina, i turned around and there was a little girl i had never laid eyes on who knew exactly who i was and where i lived, she followed me the entire way home, precious.

well i think i have written enough for one day, wow.  ohhhhh, i cooked whole wheat pasta the other night and made red sauce with red vine tomatoes, garlic, onions, peepers, spinach and olive oil...it was tasty delcious and my family loved it, first time they had olive oil, oh yeah, i am a chef...

ok now i am really done... hey for any of you camp folks reading this, have any great leadership activity ideas...i have to run a leadership workshop, hands on style next week, let me know... thanks!!!!

ok miss you all and love hearing from you sooo please email...or write letters...mail.

love

katie
