The Daintree Rainforest

Finally we got a reprieve from the downpours and the roads were open into the Daintree Rainforest. On the way there I went on a Daintree river cruise for some croc spotting and we saw three! I put up the pictures of the 8 foot long dominant male and the little female we saw chilling in the mud flats along the banks of the river.
The rainforest is beautiful and we walked along the Maardja Board Walk with our guide explaining the trees. He told us about how the aborigines used to use the land without abusing it, and pointed out a cute little lizard. The rest of the day I just chilled in this beautiful backpacker with an amazing view of the park. It's quite close to the beach, but you can't swim here because of the jellyfish.
Mossman gorge would have been an amazing spot the next day if the rain hadn't come back because there are several places you could normally swim. It was way too cold for that and with the rain the water was moving too quickly anyway. After a shopping stop in the ritzy town of Port Douglas we headed back to Cairns. It was a relaxing day, but I was impatient to get on to Melbourne, and was satisfied with the croc sightings on the first day. More thumbnails ...
