Day 2 - Shop Around Town
Entry 2 of 4 | show all | print this entry |
On our now Friday, November 30th (since we skipped right over Thursday while flying), Jose and I visited the famous Silk Market. Here is where we found they sell most of the 'knock-offs'. We had a stamp made with our names in english and chinese (hopefully, it really says our name and not something else). We also chatted with some of the workers - they asked us questions about America and we asked them questions. Many thought I was very young - 20 to 22 and said I was very beautiful (I think they were trying to sweet-talk us into buying stuff).

Later, we passed by the Hotel Sheraton to see the hotel in which Jose had stayed at the last time he was in Beijing for work - very nice hotel. Right next to it is the Hard Rock Restaurant, so we decided to check it out for a mid-day snack and order an appetizer and some drinks. BIG MISTAKE! He ordered himself a mojito and for me a pina colada. The mojito was bearable, but the pina colada tasted like water and milk, and after letting it sit for a few minutes, that's what it looked like too. I didn't bother to drink it with fear of getting sick. We also ordered a nacho appetizer - it had the frozen fried taste to it. We decided to stick to Chinese or hotel food.
