We went into the centre of Bordeaux city and was amazed by how clean and nice everything looked. It turns out that Bordeaux is a finalist for European City of Culture for 2013. The city has had a ral makeover. A big part of this is that the city had the same mayor for over 50 years and nothing was really done for such a long time that it earned the nickname'The Sleeping Beauty'. Since a new mayor came in about 10 years ago there has been a lot of work to the city and lots of cleaning up to make Bordeaux the beautiful and tourism friendly city it is now. We took a tour of the city and found out about the history and saw the important areas of the city which dates back to Roman times (somewhere before the birth of Christ).
Before dinner we had a look at he the 'mirror'. Not actually a mirror but a water feature which reflects the beautiful stock exchange buildings on the foreshore of the river, this water feature has been in place for only two years and has obviously become a great place for families as there were kids running everywhere and really enjoying the water. At night it also becomes a meeting point for the young people of the city - It seems that any time of the day there are people everywhere at eh 'mirror' A wine Chateau in the Bordeaux wine region

 . We had a lovely French dinner, and promptly decided that we did not need 3 courses for dinner and that in future we'd be eating on with a maximum of two courses.
Still getting over my cold we had a sleep in and slow morning before deciding to hire a car which would give us the freedom to get out and see the French wine making county as well as be able to drive to the nearby ocean front at Lacanau.
We icked up our car and headed to Lassau, a winery that has three separate chateaux in different styles. We had a wine tasting and then headed back to Bordeaux for some dinner.
