We caught the plane to Vegas and headed to our hotel, which was based in the Stratosphere Casino, not really having any idea where anything in Vegas is we soon found that we were a little out of the main strip area and that a block in Vegas is a long way! We finally found some dinner at about 11 at night and headed to our room for some sleep.
The first day in Vegas we booked a show for the night and then decided to check out some of the casinos on the Strip. We started at MGM Grand, here they have live lions on display. They have a purpose built enclosure that you can walk through and see the lions above or around you. Each day they have two blocks of time when the lions are available to see, they will have two lions in the enclosure during this time and then those two lions will be taken back to the lion farm nearby and two more lions will be brought to the enclosure, so that the lions are not on display all day and they are not displayed for too long in a day. It was amazing to be standing there and suddenly a lion is bounding above your head
We managed to make it through 4 days in Vegas without a drink or any gambling! Only because we were too busy checking out all that we could see that we didn't have time to stop and think about anything else.
We saw a magic show the first night and enjoyed some of the amazing effects, on the way home we stopped to look at the dancing fountains in front of the Bellagio. Every half an hour the fountains are choreographed to dance in time with a song. It's a beautiful sight.
The second night we went to Fremont Street. Fremont Street is the area where the first casinos were set up before the Strip was there. The old casinos are still there and the street has been pedestrianised. Over the street the worlds biggest flat screen has been set up to and after dark a visual show plays on the screen above you - it's amazing to see the visuals go for 4 blocks.
