We arrived in Itacare at about 9.00 at night so by the time we found ourselves a pousada and something to eat it was quite late. Itacare is a small fishing village frequented by travellers for the surf, reggae and eco tourism. Itacare is not on the main road and so involves extra travelling to get to but it was so worth it. There is a relxed buzz about town and the beaches are beautiful.
The first two days in Itacare the most we could manage to do was drag ourselves down to the beach and sit and swim and then do the same again all day. It was glorious! I did manage to turn a bit of a shade of pink due to the sun exposure. The third day in Itacare we arranged for a tour where we were driven in a land rover up a nearby peninsular to a place called Praia Taipus de Flora, (praia is the word for beach). We spent the day relaxing by the beach, swimming, snorkelling and being driven around the sights. Our guide Ivan was great as he spoke English very well and so we were able to hear about all the different things as we drove along. One the way to the beach we drove to a lookout where we could see a lake and then palm tree and then beyond that the beach. On the way back we drove between the beach and the lake which was really cool to see the water on both sides. We also went swimming in a fresh water lake.
On our tour there were 6 of us, two Austrians, two Portugese and Matt and I, for the first time in a while everyone could speak a level of English and so we all got along really well and had a great relaxing day. We followed this up by another relaxing day by the beach under the umbrella of our favourite umbrella man - Francisco before catching the midnight bus to Arraial D'Ajuda. More thumbnails ...
