Today's hike was the toughest so far...mostly uphill and very steep. We crossed a couple of quiet creeks and, for the most part, the trails were pretty shady and very beautiful. We were thankful for the shade since it has been very warm this week...temperatures in the mid-20's. (About 80 F)
We hiked from 10am to 1pm, stopping briefly for a much needed break on a grassy spot on the trail. Then we continued on, completing the last leg of this hike and finally reached San Gimigmanano. It's a beautiful city! Lots of interesting sights and the towers are quite amazing.
We were too tired to follow Stephanie on another walk to the medieval fountains so we picked a nice, shady restaurant on the plaza and had a good lunch
Shopped a bit and then rejoined the group at 4:25 for a bus ride (20 minutes) to Colle di Val d'Elsa.
Checked into the hotel, rested a bit, called Keri so that she could hear the 5:00 bells ringing -- then explored the town a bit.
The group had dinner at Il Frantoio, a wonderful restaurant in an old mill below the ground. Since wild mushrooms are in season, I had a wonderful Porcini mushroom risotto -- and Gary had pork. The wine was delicious also...and it was fun chatting with everyone. They are a lively and fun group!
A great day and a wonderful night. Now off to bed so that we can do it all over again!
