We arrived in Ft. Lauderdale around 1:30 pm and, thankfully, our luggage arrived with us in spite of everything.

The taxi ride to Fort Everglades was short and uneventful and Holland America checked us in with brisk efficiency.  Before we knew it, we were on board the Zuiderdam, marveling at her size and beauty.

We found Hunter, Karen and Ali and had a snack with them by the pool.  Then, after a quick look at our room and balcony,  it was time for the mandatory muster drill, thoroughly conducted by a friendly and efficient crew.

The sail-away party afterwards was fun, but before we knew it, it was time for dinner since we had early seating. Hunter, Karen, Ali, Gary and I had a table to ourselves and our waiters were gracious and friendly.  It was hard choosing what to order...everything looked great and there were a lot of Caribbean-inspired dishes such as coconut mousse, tropical fruit salad, fish with mango salsa and  fruit sorbets.

After a very satisfying dinner, we said good night to our travel companions and, after a few laps around the Promenade deck, we turned in early since we hadn't slept for almost 24 hours.
