Where I stayed
Coconut Grove
Before I begin, I have to say that I am dedicating this entry to my good friend, Aloe Vera.
The temperature on this coast is so much greater than in the Andaman Sea, that my infuriatingly colourless stomach, welcomed all sun rays within the first hours here and so it burnt to a crisp. Thanks to an Aloe Vera massage (or two) it sorted itself out after 36 hours.
This place is great, and has helped us forget about our overnight 'cruise' from Surat Thani - the beach by day turns into the happening place by night. You think it's bad detangling Christmas lights and checking the bulbs once a year - these guys do it every day, to transform the beach chair areas into delectable eateries! So hard to explain - see the photos!
Julia stayed one night here before heading to Koh Pha Ngan. As I have to head back to Surat Thani (I won't be going on the night boat!) to catch a flashpacker flight to Bangkok, I decided to stay here. Before she left, we saw a place called Dr Fish, which is basically a place where you put your feet in a fishtank, and they nibble away on your crusty skin!! Euuuggghhh!! Given my fear of fish, this was my worst nightmare, but I went in to watch Julia getting eaten! After about 20 minutes, and convincing from Julia that it felt like a footspa, and that the fish didn't have teeth, I decided to do it...I know...what was I thinking??! (My ankles were swollen from mucho mozzie bites, and as the fish apparently offer good health properties, that was moreso what made me try it)
But, yes, I now have very smooth feet! I was terrified at first and really hated it, but it was true - it did feel like a footspa after the initial feeling that they were eating me, followed by hysterical tickling.... The lady did tell us though that you have to be careful for fraud salons, as the fish might actually have teeth! You've been warned!
On my last day, I went on a tour round the island, and saw a variety of temples and buddhist monks - dead and alive (see photos)
We stayed on Chaweng Beach here on Koh Samui, which is apparently the best one, and the sand is gorgeous. Low season on this side also, so lots of deals to be had. We didn't have a pool at this place, but the neighbours let us use theirs...we think...?!
Do I have to come home?

Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui
. We also saw a trained monkey climbing a tree to get coconuts, and I held him afterwards. Another weird thing we saw was some rock formations nicknamed the Grandfather & Grandmother rocks, that are phallic symbols. Personally, I thought whoever discovered these had far too much time on their hands...!We stayed on Chaweng Beach here on Koh Samui, which is apparently the best one, and the sand is gorgeous.
