On my way to Thailand!! Very excited!!
I left Dublin last night, and got to Gatwick quite late, and leaving early this morning. When I booked my ticket originally, I thought I'd booked for 10:30pm on Friday night...but had accidentally booked for 10:30am - I know - how did I ever get myself round the world. I'd already booked the flight to London when I realised, and it worked out to be cheaper to just come on that flight and stay at the Travelodge at the airport here (Margaret - if you're reading this, I wouldn't have had time - and it would have cost more, to come out to you!)
I realised as they were pulling away, that I'd accidentally given my boss all my flight details together with the work stuff I'd intended to give her to take back to the office for me. For once I'd been really organised and had EVERYTHING printed out - I now have nothing...
A friendly Dublin hotel person let me re-print my boarding card for the London bound flight, so that was a good start. At the airport, I had a mild panic, as Ryanair were measuring bags as we were boarding - I hadn't checked my backpack in, as it's not that big - luckily I just walked right through...I think it would have fitted in the thing anyway
Then when I got to Gatwick, I asked the information desk how to get to the Travelodge.....he asked me "which one" - as far as I could remember there was only one, but he insisted there were 4 in the vicinity...as I didn't have my print out I couldn't be sure...I asked him if he could phone one of the Travelodges as then I'd probably find out which one it was...and he said 'no' - I asked at the next desk (hotel reservations) - again, 'computer says no'. Not very helpful. This all happened in the south terminal, and they had suggested I go to the North terminal, so I did, and asked the 'hotel reservation' place there, and she was like "the courtesy bus is outside across the street" - why did the others not know that, grrrrr?! (BTW. The 'courtesy bus, is £3 - not 'free courtesy')
To add to all that, there is only one Travelodge here, so I was right (there is 4 TravelINNS! Grrrr!)
Anyway, onwards and upwards! I'm meeting Steve out there - he was on the flight last night, so is 12 hours ahead of me, so is fully responsible for finding us somewhere to stay. No pressure, ha ha! The night before he left, he was telling me I should 'make a list' so I didn't forget anything. I insisted I didn't need a list, and that as long as I had my camera, purse & passport, I was fine. I spoke to him before he took off last night, and has he not forgotten his camera! (And that was with a list as well, lol!)
I have taken the liberty of adding map pins, so you can see which way I am flying. I'm leaving in 45 minutes. The time now is 9:15 *lets out small scream* Oh, and my bag only weighed 8.2kgs when I checked it in - well done me.

What happened to customer service??
Sucks that everyone in Gatwick was pain in the arse. Don't let it ruin the trip though. Have fun!
well done!
I'm so amazed that you managed to pack your stuff for a trip in 8.2kg! A seasoned traveller indeed! My advice is to keep up the travelling or you will lose that skill - our case for going to Croatia for a week weighed in a wee bit over the 22kg limit, but luckily we got away with it. I blame my photographer hubby who uses all his carry on baggage allowance on photography gear, then still has to put a heavy tripod in the hold luggage!!!
Hope you have a wonderful holiday Kathryn. Looking forward to hear what you get up to!

8.2kgs & memory loss
Clare...to be fair, I had no toiletries in there...I waited until I got to Gatwick to buy shampoo & stuff, so I could take it on as hand luggage from Dublin to London to avoid Ryanair's stinky charges, ha ha!
Bill...where? Gatwick airport? What? (Already forgotten by the time I got my hands on the in-flight entertainment, ha ha!)
