After New Year, I really wanted to leave Rio - it is a great place, but I´ve done all the tourist stuff already when I was here last year. Also I got a bit burned on my back and eaten alive by mosquitoes, so I was ready to move on, especially as at night I was a bit miserable while out and couldn´t last the pace as my back was roasting and people were bumping into it, coupled with my mozquito allergy...euugh! The last day I spent in Rio, it was 36 degrees centigrade!!
It was great catching up with old friends again, and I´ll always have a soft spot for Rio, but I want to see some other places in Brazil, and also chill out in a smaller town since this is just a holiday this year. Julia is going to come with me, and we were so pleased with ourselves for actually making a plan this year! Last year we totally got sucked into the carioca lifestyle, and everything was ´tomorrow, tomorrow´, so after a lot of working things out, we´re heading for Buzios, 3 hours north of Rio. We were going to go on Sunday, then Julia realised she had her apartment for another day, but as I was ready to go, I went anyway and arranged to meet Julia on Monday.
I still think everyone should experience Rio once in their lives. It´s an amazing city, but for me, I´m content to move on now and see some other places before I have to go home.
