It's not very often that I am so moved, so touched by what I see - my eyes still moist as I sit here typing, my hands trembling slightly.
The wonder, the beauty of it all.
Is there a god, for that's what I sense, godliness. This can not be an evolutionary accident.
Yet I am not religious, not in any acknowledged way at least.
The countryside is amazing this time of year.
Earlier today, walking around Nailhac, not far from here, I was so delighted - the colours of the trees, in between late summer and early autumn, still green but with a golden sheen
Though the first leaves are falling, still in full foliage. The sunlight performing magic, shimmering, flickering through the tree tops, and the smell, the balmy, autumny scent, makes you feel heady.
Clear blue sky, so many birds, the small ones and the great birds of prey.
The cows, they looked so friendly. Russet brown, woolly hides, dusty and warm from the sun. Beautiful languid eyes, rimmed with a creamy colour. Curious beasts - stand near the fence for a while and the whole herd will wander down to come and say hullo.
These animals are more effective than any tranquillizer, they make everything seem peaceful, they calm you, they soothe you.
If I ever get to live in France, I want to be somewhere near the Limousin cows.
But the evening was different.
The sun had set, taking the warmth of the day with its last rays, and the sky, over the trees, was an apricot pink, with smudges of dark greyish-blue.
If you looked to the west, you could see La Bachellerie in the far distance, to the east Marsingeas, sleepy little village - the walls of the cottages glow honey and pink in the twilight.
The meadows, the hills - I looked around and thought: I hope I'll remember this, I don't ever want to forget the pure beauty and what it means to me.
Hope, I think it gives me hope.
This is a strange old chapter. Musing and reflecting.
I'll post it anyway as this is all I have for you.
If nothing else, it is straight from the heart.
