Like an old love, whose body you know well, I know Amsterdam.
All the nooks and the crannies - the exciting and the mellow spots, all so familiar to me.
Over thirty years I have lived here, on and off.
Our children born in the house we live in.
We've come a long way together, the city and me. Though I really see Amsterdam as a big village.
I've seen changes, good and bad, but some things never change: the canals with the beautiful houses, the old parks, the typical Amsterdam humor - you'll never get it if not born and bred here.
I love its colorfulness, all the nationalities along with their food and life styles, I love its tolerance, the coffee shops, the music, the sense of freedom, of being alive.
Amsterdam seduced me long ago. I love Amsterdam. Of course.
How to explain?
I suppose you can't be at two places at the same time. And France is pulling at my heartstrings.
I want to be there, I want my eyes to rest on the green hills, I miss my castle.
I want to be there.
Can't explain, so I won't try. It's just the way it is.
It's time to wrap it up. I'm no longer a traveler, well not till September, that is.
This Travelpod-thing has turned out to be a fantastic experience for me.
Set out to be a private-ish diary, it turned into something I never could have imagined.
So many readers! and so many generous, encouraging reactions.
I have to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. So thank you, thank you for bearing with me, your emails, calls, comments - touching, and all very much appreciated.
What more can I say?
Maybe September you'll find me here again.
Maybe I'll continue elsewhere as I'm gonna miss jotting down my adventures.
