JOURNEY: Booti Booti, Newcastle, Swansea, Munmorah NP, Norah Head- 200kms

WEATHER: Variable

This was our second visit to Norah Head and we had fond memories of the place from 2009.

The caravan park seemed a little shabbier with additional permanent on site vans but once we recovered from the initial disappointment we settled in to enjoy 5 days here. We were able to choose our own site and pay $25 pn without power.

The surfing beach is quite spectacular and is monitored by Surf Lifesaving. There is a kiosk overlooking the beach that seems to open in good weather, because like all of coastal Australia weather has a huge impact on the number of people visiting- you wonder where they all go on a wet blustery day after a bustling attendance when the sun shines.

On several days we were the only walkers on the long stretch of sand.

The little town has a bakery and a few shops. We noticed two cafes that were doing fantastic business on the weekend and enjoyed the nearby rock pool below the popular park.

A caravan club from Gosford area filled a large section of the park with oldies and Kath got a rundown on the rules and goals of these clubs and a participant handed over the itinerary for the group- not too exciting. By Saturday, fine and sunny the families and weekenders arrived and the park was buzzing; our spot on higher ground gave us a bird's eye view of the action -again not too exciting.

Our highlight was the long beach walks each day on low tide beside the Wyrrabal national park with changing weather conditions producing widely variable environments.

The walk to the lighthouse was easy and revealed another attractive coastal area and on that sunny morning the views were striking. Good to see people enjoying the summer weather.

We kept in touch with our friends Judy and Don, who we originally met on the Mailman's Run in Coober Pedy and had offered us a place for the van and an ensuite bedroom for us in Carlingford, Sydney. We were looking forward to catching up with them again on Sunday.

A quick stop at Toukley revealed another pretty beach and then it was an easy journey on the highway to our Sydney destination.

Sydney here we come!
