Where I stayed
With the Thompson family
WEATHER: 0 degrees o'night, 15-20 degrees by day
After a pleasant stay in Moree, we headed off on a sunny cool morning to Inverell where the Thompson family are living. We originally met the family in Cape Range National Park, just out of Exmouth WA and have met up with them many time since.
Inverell is a NSW town of about 10,000 people and is sometimes tagged the Sapphire City because of the sapphires found in the area. It has rich soils that grow crops of wheat, barley, oats etc.
The town has some lovely old buildings and we explored the main street several times but our main purpose in stopping here was to spend time with our friends.
We parked our van at the property, and received a happy welcome; we slept in the van but mostly enjoyed the warmth of the log fire as temperatures were dipping low by night but warmed to fine sunny days.
We had promised Emma lunch at her choice of venue so it was off to McDonald's the next day; Kath had braided Emma's hair for the occasion and she looked great.
John and Sarah had a night on the town as we minded the kids and we all had Joe's choice of takeaway on the way back home after dropping the parents in town. Joe's birthday would happen just after we left.
We enjoyed the adventure to check out a farm that was for sale just out of Guyra; the family travelled with the real estate agent and Sheila followed in the all wheel drive car as we toured the farm. We were all hungry when the inspection was over and appreciated a good lunch at Guyra. John and Sarah are searching for a farm to buy in the district. Good luck, guys.
It was good conversation and good wine around the fire.
As always it was a real treat to spend time with this family and hopefully it won't be too long before we meet again. The kids got Sheila online with Kik.
Thanks for the hospitality.
