WEATHER: Rain, wind, cloud and cold.
Well we guessed our luck had run out with the weather but we took our guests on a long walk around Santona to see the surf beach, the bay and the fort overlooking the town.
In between we enjoyed good company, good food and wine at home or in the bar!!!
Santona is a fishing port, which processes tons of anchovies and we saw many anchovy factories along the port. Alfonso bought some and he and Alberto put together a very elegant plate that looked too good to eat but was delicate and delicious! We remember that after that lunch of white wine and red wine they both needed a siesta, a very civilised Spanish tradition- an annoying one when you want to buy something between 2 and 5pm.
Sunday saw us on the road again to meet some friends of the guys in Santander, about 60kms away west. Santander is a bigger city of 140,000 people on the sea and very attractive. We arrived at the lovely Sardinero beach and the clouds cleared from time to time to enhance the colours of the sea and sky.
We walked for hours and enjoyed the views and architecture. Luis and Rei were generous with their time and good guides to this elegant city.
Oddly we landed at a Chinese Restaurant for lunch, our first Chinese meal since leaving Australia and the food had a Spanish slant and was good.
Later in the afternoon, Luis and Rei told us of a rugged beach 20 kms away so we followed in our car and enjoyed a long walk, the sunset and the bar until it was time to go back to Santona. This has been a great day with new Spanish friends. Thanks guys for your hospitality and friendship!
