Journey: Tarifa to Tangier, Morocco - 14kms
Kath had dreamed of going to Morocco in 1969 but it did not happen and now 43 years later she gets on a fast ferry to land in Tangier.
We had decided to take a tour with the ferry company FRS at a reasonable price but we were disappointed with the event. The tour guide had promised time in the Kasbah market but we were directed to very limited stalls and there was a lot of pressure to buy carpets, artifacts and other items.
Lunch was good and we did get a glimpse of life in this exotic outpost, now very much a tourist destnation with huge hotels and tourists hot spots.
The city was an international city in the 1940's on and attracted writers, and artisiic people and had a dodgy reputation for spies and clandestine activities.
We had just 6 hours to take in the culture led by we thought a dodgy tour guide who rushed the 15 of us from place to place with not much information. We did get to see some local food and stuff but would not recommend the FRS tour, that Lonely Planet suggested .
The 45 minute trip back to Spain on the ferry was rough and we were pleased to get off and onto land at 8.45pm. So that was Morocco in half a day!
