JOURNEY: Elliston, Cowell, Pt Augusta, Mambray Creek (over night), Pt Pirie , Adelaide- 750kms

After crossing the Eyre Peninsula to Cowell, we were now travelling up the east coast of the peninsula through an attractive landscape. Unfortunately the ferry from Cowell to Wallaroo is out of action which is a shame because the sea journey cuts the kilometres by 400 - my estimate!

The rain was pelting down and visibility was dodgy in places but we made it safely to Mambray Creek in the Mt Remarkable NP. Sheila was careful of choosing a site because the heavy rain had muddied the ground and in places bogging was an issue.

We chose a cleared site without overhead trees and with a gravel base and Sheila positioned the van close to the bitumen road for easy departure.

This is a wonderful camp area and even though the weather was not really happy camping conditions there were campers in about 75% of the sites.

The majestic gums on the red earth are beautiful and we remember our previous visit here about one year ago when we enjoyed some great walks and friendly company. Too wet to walk and to meet new friends this time.

We enjoyed a bottle of red and snack food and decided to retire early after a long journey.

The next morning after a wet night, it was full speed to Adelaide, where we will stay about 6 weeks.

We are "home" doing domestics, doctors, dentists, car checks, shopping etc  plus meeting up with family. Happily mum is doing well and celebrates her 93rd birthday just before Easter when cousin Sally from Perth comes to visit us all as well. Happy days!

Sherrin and Graham on

We were just talking about you and decided to find out where the two travellers were situated, only to find you are back in Adelaide.
As for the Robbos nothing much has changed on our home front, we are still plodding along at South Bank, which since the flood has benn extremely quiet with a lot of repair work still going on.
Not much other news except Brett and Loui have sold their house, the one we did all the work on. They made $300,000 which was great. Believe it or not they want to shhift down the coast, so for the past few weekends have been searching for the dream property, which so far has not been found. It is a good time to buy so hopefully they find what they want at a good price. Still no babies for them but I believe they are going back to the specialist in the not too distant future, so we are keeping fingers crossed.
We had Bill around for dinner a couple of weekends ago, he was by himself as Ros was overseas visiting their daughter. Had a great evening, he is so easy to talk, although a few people had sore heads the next day.
Hope you continue to have a great time. Please let us know when you intend to be back in Brissie so we can catch up.
Best wishes Sherrin and Graham

Lois on

Hey Sheila and Kath, looks lilke I had the same idea as Graham and Sherrin - to check how the intrepid travellers were going. I have only recently come back from a trip to Adelaid (also Murray River Cruise) with my father. We had a lovely time although I found Dad quite negative on occassions which I found difficult. All 4 of us Ross and the boys and I have only just returned from an Easter break at Ayers Rock. We had a fab time. Walked up and around the base of the Rock as well as a visit to the Olgas. It is such a beautiful part of Aust. I have had a week and a bit off and on Tuesday start work at a new job. I will be working for the Hear and Say Centre in a MarComms role. I am looking forward to it very much.
It was lovely to catch up on your adventures. Love to you both Lois and Ross
