JOURNEY: Hamelin Bay, Margaret River, Conto's camp -70 kms

WEATHER: Mid 30’s, hot and sunny

ACCOMMODATION: Hamelin Hollow, Conto’s camp ground

After that fabulous stay in Hamelin Bay, we were refreshed and energised as we headed north again to meet up with Pauline and Trevor in Conto’s.

Unfortunately, last night, Sheila discovered that the TV was dead, not working, stone cold etc!!!!! Fortunately she diligently investigated and ultimately diagnosed a blown fuse in the cable; also fortunately after some shopping around in M River we purchased replacement fuses. She had also blown the satellite cable during her diagnostic stage so 2 fuses and spares were required. Happy with this outcome we visited a few more local wineries and witnessed the setting up of stage etc at Leeuwin for the annual outdoor concert- this year Bryan Ferry. It is an impressive winery and the Art Series wine labels are printed from famous Australian artworks displayed (and owned) in the wonderful on site gallery.

We caught up with our friends Pauline and Trevor and parked our van in site 21, close to their caravan.

Over four nights we increased to a group of 10 as more friends arrived and we enjoyed the company and fun with everyone!

Camp hosts Bill and Elizabeth were really entertaining and joined us each evening for "sundowners".

Paul and Debbie had an unusual hobby of touring the country locating “geocaching” items; it is a world wide online organisation where tiny items are hidden by members of the club, and then located by posted GPS coordinates by the finder. Sounds like fun as you travel around! Did a quick check on line and it does sound intersting!

Strangely, one of our superannuation funds reached its/our target $amount along with an anticipated “All Ordinaries” level and so it was time to switch the asset class while at Conto's. So it was onto the phone and internet, and with dodgy connections at times to do the big move. An advisor from the company called us early morning to make sure we were fully aware of the implications of the switch and it was indeed weird to be sitting in the bush with very loud bird song surrounding us as we discussed the future of our fund. The advisor commented on the bush sounds!!!

Happily our return visit to Margaret River on Saturday morning gave us such a different impression of the place; the farmers markets were wonderful and we bought fresh local products and saw something of the local people. The town was buzzing because of the Leeuwin concert this weekend!

A quick check of the USA markets on Saturday morning reinforced our decision and the switch was made online as we ate fresh almond croissants from the M River bakery later that morning.

Once again we loved our time at Conto’s but now it was time to go south again.
