4 degrees at 6am;12 degrees at 9am

Clear sunny day.

Kath got up at 6.15am and it was dark and very cold; walked along the sand tracks and up to the Imalung Lookout to watch the sun's first rays shine on Uluru; colours of purple and pink. Then it was exploring the huge Yulara complex with so many different types of accommodation and shops and restaurants. The supermarket was well stocked with fresh fruit and vegetables at reasonable prices but we had to wait until late Saturday afternoon for the "Weekend Australia" which, by the way we hardly got around to reading! Too busy! The Resort has something for everyone which is pretty amazing out here in the middle of an arid desert!

Today was our day in the Olgas and we were keen to do some serious hiking:

The Olgas, Kata Tjuta means many heads, 36 in fact and are a series of round rocks - domes- all in a row and very impressive against a blue sky. Again we were surprised to see so many gorgeous flowers along the way.

The drive to the Olgas is 50 kms from Yulara so we made a day of our visit. “The Walpa Gorge Walk” was short and passed through high walled canyons to a peaceful quiet gorge.

 “The Valley of the Winds
” was a more challenging 8 km circuit that took us via many gorges and ascents and descents on rocky ground to inspiring vistas and huge red rocks and canyons; beautiful!

We were truly zapped at the end of the day and drove back to our camping spot and chilled until bed time! Sheila had the alarm set for the 4am soccer match between Australia and Ghana and we watched a good match with a not too inspiring outcome!
