After 3 hours we arrived an hour late at Mykonos around 3pm where we were greeted by the hotel guy and taken back to check in and settle down. We then went down to wander the old town which is a maze of cute whitewashed streets and buildings full of shops and cafes which sits just next to the harbour.
We stopped for some dip and bread for lunch, and then greek icecream for desert before heading back to have a dip in the pool and shower. We then walked to the famous windmill (most photographed windmill in the islands) to watch the gorgeous sunset.
We then went back to have dinner at the hotel and head to bed.
Got up this morning and got a nice continental breaky from the hotel restaurant before heading out to hire a scooter (not ATVs available and they only have 50CC ones anyway) – WITH the obligatory helmets you will be happy to know. We managed to get lost within the first 5 mins, so stopped and got our bearings before driving another 15mins and ending up on the north coast when we were heading for the south… not to worry though as we spent a bit of time on the lovely north coast with beautiful sand and clear water and not too much of a breeze unlike what we were told about the north coast.
After a while we headed down to the south coast (not far since the island is only 12km long) to a beach called Elias with lots of umbrellas where we had some lunch at a nice reastaurant overlooking the beach.
Next was a little beach called lia which was a smaller version of the others with nice sand, clear water and lots of umbreallas – we sunbaked and swam at all the beaches we visited, the water was beautiful both to look at and swim in!
The last beach we visited was super paradise – one of the two beach club beaches on the island. It was in the evening so it was in full swing already with a DJ, dance area, poles, cocktails, cafeteria, lockers, showers, umbreallas, beds, tables, and more! Just to access the beach you had to walk through a door and down a corridor – very strange!
It was a lot of fun though and we just relaxed on the beach with a cocktail listening to the DJ and watching the numerous guys in their DTs dance their hearts out (Mykonos is one of the top holiday destinations for gays, and this beach was one of the top gay hangout places in Mykonos, hence the many muscled, manicured men dancing like its 1999). It was a great atmosphere but it was soon time to head off back to the hotel to shower and change in order to head down to the water in time for the sunset.
So we walked to old town, watched the sunset at the harbour and then went to dinner (had yummy squid) in the old town before heading back to the hotel to bed.
Our last day in the mediteranean today…. Woke up to breaky again, packed our stuff and lazed around for a while.
We then went out for a ride on the scooter to the old town and around the bays before taking it back to the hire place. Back at the hotel we relaxed by the pool until it was time to head to the airport (it was a long 2km, 10min drive away!) where we checked in and waited for our flight.
