A conversation, Vancouver, Canada: June 16th at 12:01am:

Lacy: Sooooo.... How was your trip?"

Dryver: "... it was really good!"

Lacy: "What was your favorite place, like, if you could go back anywhere, where would it be?"

Dryver: "Well its so hard to choose one place, even one country. Its like picking your favorite person. They're all amazing and dynamic in their own unique way. I could pick a favorite place but I'm single."

Lacy: "So who did you go with?"

Dryver:" Myself."

Lacy: " Wow, wasn't that scary?"

Dryver: "I didn't sleep or eat much the week before leaving, but when I landed everything changed. Its like anything really, hard at first and then you get good at it and eventually its second nature. You blink and your a nomad, carrying all you need to get by on your back. That's the best part of scary, it always teaches you something you never thought it could."

Lacy: "So how many days were you away?"

Dryver: "two hundred and sixty days."

Lacy: "That's a long time alone, did you work anywhere?"

Dryver:" I Wasn't planning on it but the opportunity arose and I flew to Edinburgh Scotland where my brother and his girlfriend live and worked as a bartender. It was called Candy bar and I never had been a bartender before- good fun working through Hogmany (which is the Scottish version of New Years eve)-Edinburgh is notorious for their crazy Kilt wearing, booze guzzling first day of the year bashes.

Jan 01 was rung in wearing doctors and nurses outfits spraying soda from the drink dispensers on all the clientele while delicately slamming back the tequila shooters. 4 am I ate Haggis for the first time. The next day I decided to start a map illustration project for the Madrid-fountain-swimmer-dude a week before flying to Thailand.

Lacy: "How many countries did you visit?"

Dryver:"Including Monaco, which technically is a country, eleven and if you include the stopover in Doha, Qatar that's twelve but whose counting really...?!
I Flew to England-then it was portugual-spain-italy -back to spain-france-italy-back to england up to scotland-thailand-Laos-Vietnam-Cambodia back to Thailand and flew to France to meet my mom-then last stop was New York city to visit an old swimming buddy I met in madrid. I have every flag except an American one, which I can get in good ole Canada"

Lacy: would love to see your pictures...

Dryver: I have a travel pod online that I wrote and posted pictures while I was away. I just posted some pictures of my first month at home. Mostly random but worth taking a look. You can view them all sequentially as a slide show, that's the most efficient way of telling my story."

Lacy: "huh. So what are you getting.... gin and tonic, a beer...?"

Dryver:"I think I'll see if they know how to make a capirinha, I hear there really tasty!"

Lacy: "Sounds good."

Dryver: "So-how are the wedding plans coming along? I'm so excited to see you in your dress!"

Lacy: Everything is coming along just beautifully...

Marco: "This is a great song, you ladies are definitely dancing this one..."

Lacy: lets finish this later, this isssss a good song!

Dryver: Would love to.

-------They danced the night away as if Dryver never left vancouver. The club was smaller than she remembered but always found space to groove. She thought she saw that guy from her travels, but her mind was playing tricks. The faces were all merging into a hybrid of characters from her travels. As the night went on and she came to realise her backpacking days would never end. The flickering thought of knowing it was better to travel than arrive, kept her backpack on tight as she danced till dawn.

The morning sun sunflooded her lepoard print douvet on her king size bed. She jolted awake with the same curiousity she had all those times on the road, trying to figure out what country or city she was in. Soon the feeling receded only to find its place in her dream, which made it a sweet sleep to close her eyes to.----------
