Anyways, the last couple of weeks have been pretty fun. Last weekend I stayed in Athens even though a big group went off to Istanbul. It was really relaxing! I caught up on my homework, chilled out, and explored Athens a little bit. Last week our school load was lighter because our professors were nice enough to honor the American holiday, Thanksgiving. It was relaxing, especially since I was already ahead on homework.
As you know, the new Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire, came out recently. Our whole group was DYING to see it! It premiered in Athens almost a week after it came out in the U.S
Also, as you know, last Thursday was Thanksgiving! Obviously it's not a Greek holiday, but we all celebrated as group anyway. That morning some of us did a turkey trot with my marathon-running roommate at the Olympic stadium. How cool! Then we came back and started cooking like real adults! Each apartment was to bring a dish in large enough quantity to feed 40 people! Seeing as we are rookies at the whole cooking idea, especially in Europe, it was going to be interesting. We had to search for the right ingredients, find a good recipe, and work with the small amount of kitchen supplies we have to create a LOT of food. It was funny seeing everyone's posts on our Facebook group
The next day, we headed off on our last excursion! We went to Nauplio and Olympia! We also stopped at Epidaurus, Tiryns, and Mycenae. If you're a history buff, you may know what these places are. Nauplio is the first capital of Greece. And everyone should know that Olympia is where the first Olympics were held, in the 8th century BC. The history is so incredible! We had a history professor along with us for the weekend, so I know everything...and there's a lot! My favorite part of the excursion was running the Olympic track that naked men used to race on. We also had a fun time at the hotels playing cards (Phase 10!) and charades.
This week everything is wrapping up. Last night we had a Girls Night In which was a really fun bonding time! We are studying hard but trying to make the most of being in Athens and being together. I imagine I'll have one more blog post before going home (scary!!!) so until then, friends!
