We all trundled off to Singapore airport , and Larey was the first to head off back to England, whilst we flew all the way up to Chiang Mai, a small, beautiful and laid back town in the north of Thailand with views of the surrounding mountains. It was raining when we arrived, the first rain we'd seen in a while, and we had the most miserable Taxi driver in the world, who just ignored our attempts at polite chat, and got really impatient and grumpy because we couldn't get our luggage out of the car quick enough, so we spent ages trying to 'find' the right currency so he got as wet as we and our bags did.
We stayed at Smile guest house which had a little swimming pool and sauna and was nice and we met Kyle and Amanda and began what turned out to be one of the most craziest nights of the year on good ol vodka redbull. The redbull out here is very different from home, it comes in a little medicine-like bottle and is thick like cordial or cough syrup and it is lethal!!! We annoyed the neighbours (who, to be fair, were wankers as it was like 9pm ooh and we hadn't even gone out yet)

. We took over some beach bar, making a dance floor when one isn't supposed to be , right where the band are playing so one by one we are falling on the band and the drums in the middle of their set - most people would be annoyed by they loved us!!! Kyle kept getting slapped by some random girl, and there's a definite memory of some balloons floating about. We then went to a club and for about half an hour we were literally the only people there so we got involved in some pole dancing and randomness and then all of a sudden the place was rammed! Kyle and Amanda spent the rest of the night pissing off the DJ, and me and Darren had a very crazy night. The hangovers the next day were heavy, i think we just watched a helluva lot of dvds in bed.We had full intentions of going to the Elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai, but for some reason we didn't do it then, thinking there would be another opportunity, but the other fabulous thing about Chiang Mai was its fabulous night bazaar which you could wander around for hours as it seems to go on for miles and sells literally everything!! We got some great exercise wandering around the stalls and got some billy bargains for ourselves as well, including some pirate DVDS which began our ongoing obsession with LOST (we never thought we would succumb but, alas, we've fallen hard).
We were only here for 3 or 4 days, but is definitely somewhere i would recommend and that i want to go back to, We haven't made plans to do much of North Thailand, preferring instead to explore the beaches, but Chiang Mai is a fabulous place!! Here, we planned the next leg of our trip, but at the last minute Amanda decided she would prefer to head down to Southern Thailand, so we parted ways for a month!
