Wow, this was a shock to the system! We were intending to make our way to the island of Ko Samet but ended up jumping on the bus to Pattaya, intrigued by the Ripley's believe it or not museum and then we kept seeing 'all you can eat' buffets and well, it would be rude not to indulge!
It was only when we ventured further and thoroughly explored Pattaya was its true 'identity' revealed to us - as the sleaze haven of Thailand! We saw an abnormal amount of western males (young and old) with young Thai girls looking so pleased with themselves that it wasn't even funny, and seeing all the girls in the bars waiting for someone to pick them up. Some woman even tried to sell us a baby monkey on the street!!
Randomly we found ourselves with a new 'friend' when we escaped the busy beach to a smaller one nearby, a Greek guy who, after a couple of hours of annoying chat asked Darren if he would like to take a trip to the nudist beach with him!!!! Randomly, i met this guy before as he runs one of the Hotels in Rhodes which i did transfers for! Probably don't need to say that Daz declined his kind offer whilst i sat there sniggering.
The Ripleys museum was well worth it, full of random odd things , a groovy maze that made us feel like we were in The Matrix and a shoddy 3d simulator thing, but we had a fab day out!
The other crazy thing about Pattaya was their local news station, Pattaya News (obviously a lot of thought went into the name) which had one English presenter who, like superman, seems to be everywhere at once, and seriously this is the most random news production i have ever seen! On the first day two strapping tattoo covered German guys had gone out and brought some ladyboys from a bar, but when they returned to their hotel some dudes jumped out of the wardrobe with machetes and kidnapped one of them, wanting money from the ATM

. Someone had tipped off the news and there's this poor massive German man crying because he doesn't know where his friend is and the news is just asking him for comments whilst the ladyboys stand there posing and waving in the background!!! (his friend was ok in the end - just down on money). Another time an elderly Australian man got knocked over on Pattayas busy main road and was all cut up and bleeding. Instead of helping him up or even moving him out of the road the news team are just standing there filming it and reporting it whilst this poor guy is writhing all over the place. Finally, a tramp died, and there's this guy sitting on the floor next to his body and going' This morning this body of a tramp was found'! We were like 'What the F*ck!'.Crazy place!
