SO, we left chaotic India and headed to Thailand for some sun and sand, starting in Phuket, where we lavished in the luxury of our pre-booked hotel enjoying air con, swimming pool and buffet breakfast for cheap as chips, it was the 1st bath we had since travelling and i cant even describe how lush it was, and how great the food tasted!!!
We headed straight for the beach,m where we sunbathed way too long and had sunburn for the rest of the week. Phuket was and is beautiful but it was strange for us to all of a sudden be around so many white people!! There were tourists everywhere and that took some getting used to, as there were loads of morons around obviously enjoying themselves on holiday, it was like a massive modern street market with t shirts, bikinis and dvds and tattoos everywhere!!!
We went for a game of crazy golf at the dinosaur park (Kate won!) but apart from that we just relaxed a helluva lot. This was our first experience of snorkelling and we were amazed by all the brightly coloured fish, it was also our first experience with 'ladyboys' and Darren couldn't contain his excitement when one was our wait(ress?) in a cafe.
We decided we could afford the pounds to treat ourselves for another couple of nights but when we went to extend our stay the prices had rocketed for the Xmas season to like 50 quid so we had to leave. It cost us more to get one of Phukets ridiculously posh tuktuks to get into Patong(the main beach area) then it did for us to stay there...bizarre. So, in the end we rocked up to this hostel run by an Australian dude was really nice, he'd lost the key to the room and offered it to us for free if Darren would climb in through the window to open the door, but we discovered its on the 3rd floor so we declined and had some Chang beer till the situation was resolved. The next day though, Darren dropped the only remaining key whilst swimming in the sea , god knows how we found it but by some miracle we did and all was well. We were here for about a week, a good introduction to Thailand and its glorious beaches but a little too 'busy' for our liking.
