We found out my parents were coming to see us for Xmas whilst we were in Nepal and the timing was perfect! Although we did feel awful about having the 1st Christmas ever away, seeing someone from home really cheered us up(although it still didn't really feel like Christmas because we missed everyone else) .
Unfortunately for us, we got robbed on the bus on our way to meet them , which is why we don't have any (or many) pictures right now of Varanasi, Agra, Delhi, Nepal and Phuket because the bastards stole our camera! As well as a phone and some money, but it was the pictures which really upset us - especially those of the trek, luckily Kyle and Amanda were photo happy so we will get some piccies up asap for you all.
SO anyway, seeing the parents helped us quickly get over our loss especially when we explored the gorgeous hotel we were staying in with its gym and restaurants and huge huge swimming pool! The weather was great and a lot of drinking was had as the sneakys brought loads of duty free booze with them(some things just never change!). We even managed a game of slightly drunken Tennis, but then i took a funny turn and spent the entire evening being sick (once over the side of a restaurant watched by many a happy customer, 'the food's great') .
We went into bangkok a couple of times for shopping trips and dad surprised us all by walking straight to a tailors he was last in nine years ago when we are all going 'you're never gonna find it'. Even more surprising, the bloody guy remembered him and had all his details it was as bizarre as the photo of George Bush admiring his new suit hanging up in the shop! So, Dad was happy, and we took a trip to buy a new camera from the glorious MBK before a stop at the tourist police to report our stolen stuff. Relaxed
Relaxed
We we there for ages, writing and discussing (and drawing a not very accurate picture of the camera whose make and model we couldn't remember) and not really knowing anything about the bus being the unobservant duo that we are. Finally, wrapping things up the police man goes, 'did you happen to take any photos of you with the bus or the driver?' and we were like 'We just want to clarify - we are here because our camera was stolen????'. Typical Thailand!
We then all moved on down to Cha Am beach for Christmas day which was again luxurious and on a very long and very quiet beach. I got a much called for pedicure (you know how skanky my feet normally are? Well, imagine after 18days walking on a mountain!) and we all had massages and the Thai women took a strong liking to my dad it was hilarious they were draped all over him.
We played a lot of Patong , kinda like bowls but not , sound a bit shit but its actually pretty good and Me and my dad were the reining champions (although it was admittedly very close) as our 'match' lasted days. On Christmas day we woke up a little hungover after some heavy drinking where the 'boys' bonded and everyone was merry. We opened a few much appreciated presents, although we didn't have that much to give and for lunch we had a bacon sandwich and phoned home. We made up for it with T-Bone steaks for dinner though and again a few too many beers, and the discovery of a fake grenade which gives out electric shocks which amused us for a few hours that we then sent home to Dean to spread the love!
The time went way too quickly for all concerned but was a fabulous stretch in our travels - we didn't even take offence when they left leaving us with the bill!!
