Where I stayed
We hiked back down to Moselkern and just missed our train. The next train would come by in an hour, so we decided to find a place and have a drink. We went to this nice outdoor cafe that was along the Mosel River and I had a Bitburger (very good beer!). Hartley had an apple juice and of course I had to make fun of that!
We caught our train and headed to Boppard, a Rhine River town, and explored around there for awhile. We relaxed in another cafe so Hartley can reclaim his manhood and he ordered a beer. I had a glass of white wine as I am a very sophistimicated person! As we went back to catch our train to Bacharach we stopped in at a supermarket (Penny Markt) and bought some food and a bottle of cherry Jenever (only 6 dollars!). We drank our bottle (loving the lax liquor laws here!) and did dirty things to a statue. Found out it was a statue of Engelbert Humperdink. hehe.
Made it to Bacharach and ate dinner at the Alte Haus. It is the oldest house in Bacharach (1492) and the food was very good. The menu was only in German and the waitress didn't speak English, so we just randomly pointed at an item like the previous night in St Goar. I ended up with schnitzel and fries and Hartley had beef in a cream sauce. We then walked off the food by exploring the town and walked up a hill to see some tower ruins. The views were spectacular of the town above and the Rhine River!
What we liked about Bacharach/Rhine area:
Castles! cobblestoned streets, half timbered houses, outdoor cafes, beautiful views of Rhine, slow relaxed pace.
What we disliked:
Ideal stay would be three nights as I would have liked to have seen the other castles.
