Summer at the seaside in Oregon

It was not the best time to be at the seaside or at Seaside the town - it was cold, wet and very misty. The guide books don't tell you that it is very cold along the west coast of Oregon in summer and that swimming is out of the question for most people. We did not see anyone in the water and people on the beach were rugged up in beanies and woolly jackets.
So what do you do when it is cold and wet at the seaside? You go to an outlet shopping centre and get corrupted by your shopping mad friends. I now have two more tops and another pair of shoes! That makes three pairs in 3 weeks which is a record even for me. I did have to buy a long sleeve top due to the cold weather and the other one was $5. Oregon is one of the states that doesn't have sales tax so you have to make the most of it while you can
Anyway, as usual we did not do anything in a hurry and left late for everything. We ate lunch at this cute place called Sam's Diner with a very friendly waiter (he guessed correctly I was from Perth but I think that is because he met a girl in Laos from Perth!). I finally ate some pulled pork which is basically shredded cooked pork meat. I have yet to try biscuits and gravy but really must do so some time before I leave. It is just that the look of it puts me off and they tend to serve it for breakfast. We were going to try the bumper cars but we should have done that before we ate. Seaside is a really nice little town and it could be a good place to stay if you have the time and the weather is sunny. Our hotel was right on the beach but we couldn't see it due to the mist!
It did brighten up for a little bit on the way from Seaside to Brookings but not for long. We had a potty stop on dusk at Devil's Churn and the windchill was amazing. We also stopped for some soup and coffee at some little town on the highway. It was an old fashioned diner with lots of 50s memorabilia such as photos of Elvis and Lucy. The seats were like old car bench seats
Luckily Yukari kept me awake with the synopsis of a Korean soap opera she is hooked on back in Japan and when that was finalised told me all about this horror movie she watched where a mist invaded a town and all the inhabitants were eaten by some animal that was hiding in it. It was pretty awful so it is good I am not that easily frightened. We did not get into Brookings until 12:30am and we decided that we were not going to let that happen again. We check the distance and supposed time it will take but for some reason we need to double it!
That is the joys of being on holidays I guess - you just have to take everything as it comes and enjoy it all. I always try to remember something I heard ages ago - if something happens to you, consider whether you will laugh about it later and if you think you will, don't bother wasting time being annoyed, laugh about it now.
