Had beautiful clear weather today but again very chilly. Revisited Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag building in the daylight and the holocaust memorial
. Checkpoint Charlie was our next stop - this was the notorious border crossing between east and west berlin from 1961 to 1990. We also saw remnants of the Berlin Wall and an exhibition about the nazi crimes. Then spent a few hours at Berlin Zoo - saw the famous Knut, the 1 year old polar bear cub that made world news when his mother rejected him. He's no longer small white and fluffy - he's big and brown! Got to see another panda as well, plus heaps of monkeys, lions, tigers and the usual zoo animals.
Tomorrow we're off to Frankfurt for our last day in Europe. Then we'll be spending 3 nights in Hong Kong.
Bye for now!
PS. lots more photos uploaded now
PPS. just found out that temp today was -2 degrees, now that definitely calls for some currywurst!
Greetings from Berlin! Arrived here yesterday - very chilly!! Not sure if temp reached above 1 degrees today so definitely the coldest we've been so far. Yesterday we ascended the Fernstrum TV Tower which gives panoramic views over the city - saw lots of the landmarks which we've since visited. Also ascended the glass cupola in the Reichstag (german parliament building) which was pretty cool, visited the Brandenberg Gate and 5 different Christmas markets (Berlin reputedly has 50 different Xmas markets!!). Tried the local specialty - champignons with garlic sauce and currywurst which was sooo good and a nice thing to warm us up. By the way, for the record, the 1/2 metre bratwurst pic we just uploaded was not mine, it was Bevan's!!!
