My bus to Mendoza doesnīt leave until tonight so I walked into a cafe earlier today in hopes of finding some (always extremely milky over here) tea and a place to crack open my book. In passing another foreigner, I noticed an American bill floating to the ground in front of me (having fallen out of somewhere belonging to the person at the table in front of me) so I bent down to pick it up and hand it back to them. As I was straightening up, I overheard what he was saying to the Chilean server.

"Iīm so frustrated! Why donīt you speak any English?! Why donīt you have English menus??!! I canīt fucking read this!" At this point my jaw is scraping the floor and my eyes are bugging out of my head. The poor girl heīs yelling at looks about to cry and she just keeps shaking her head. She canīt understand him either but intolerance and rage doesnīt need any translating. "I mean, Jesus, you want me to pay for one thing and then if I want to add something else on my sandwich I have to pay MORE? Is that what youīre telling me??" Standing directly behind Mister Asshole, I tapped him on the shoulder and he turns around red in the face.

"Hi." Here I smile, though Iīd really like to slap him. "In Chile, they speak Spanish. Not English. Despite that, there are a shocking amount of restaurants around here that do have english on their menus, in fact I would recommend the one right down the street on the left. I can show you if youīd like." (Killing them with kindness.)

He didnīt say much as he packed up his things and left. I apologized, for him, to his server and paid for my tea with the twenty dollar bill heīd dropped on the floor.
