Singapore, Singapore - that struck me as funny this morning after going to bed at 4am NZ time and waking up at 5:30am Singapore time - it's like they couldn't be bothered to think of a name for this city. Like New York, New York. Wow this is redundant but at least it's illustrating just how messed my mind is at the moment. Is this what insomnia feels like?
It's 35C here (I've been informed it's -25C at home...I can't even begin to understand that number right now) but you can only feel that when you're in the Butterfly Conservatory after you've sat in the movie theater and before you head over to the massage chair store for the seventeenth time in 12hrs. If you're going to get stuck at the airport, Changi is the place to be!
I went to bed so late last night/this morning/whatever because Changi Airport is like NYC, it never sleeps. And when you're in a severely air conditioned space with glaring fluorescent lights and restaurants and stores that stay open 24hrs it's really hard to fall asleep. You end up feeling like you'll miss something. And I'm trying to wean my body off of NZ time but since I have no clue what time it is in Calgary at the moment, I don't know what I should be doing with my sleep habits. Right now I just feel deprived.
I said I would write about the south island while here but my brain isn't functioning properly to give that a go so I will leave that to when I get home and can also upload the pictures (which I can't do here either).
I have a stopover in Seoul and I'm paranoid that they're going to leave my bags there like they did when I came out here and this time it's going to take days to find them and maybe I won't find them. I don't care about the clothes but I have a sack full of Christmas that I would really like to find its way back. And then I have 8hrs in Vancouver because my other flight isn't until the evening; keep your fingers crossed that I can bat my eyes well enough to get myself on an earlier flight. The last thing I want to do is be in Vancouver in the winter without any socks. (I left my socks in Thames. I'm such a generous gift giver...harharhar.)
I bet you all didn't know that Singapore does toast. And when I say 'does' I mean Does Toast. Granny, remember how elated I was when we found that toast shop?? I hadn't had peanut butter in months and didn't feel like chicken beaks with noodles so the toast was god sent. Well they have that in the airport too. The Toastbox. And that is where I'm headed now for some "traditional toast peanut" and a cuppa. (Tea that is.) I still can't believe I didn't order a Singapore Sling on the way over here (alcohol is free on Singapore Airlines for some reason) but I still can't bring myself to drink before dinner. Usually. And alone. I know, I missed out.
Maybe I'll make a habit of writing from airports, it's sort of entertaining. See you all in Seoul (if I have time)!
