The little village that we stayed in Germany was right on the Swiss border, so we decided to take a day trip into Switzerland.  There is a hotel in Switzerland that is owned by a distant relative of the Rikli family (my maiden name is Rikli).  We weren't exactly sure where or how far away the hotel was so we called Joe and had him look it up on the internet.  We punched the information into the GPS and found it was about an hour and forty five minute drive from where we were, so we decided to go for it.

Along the way we stopped to take pictures of the beautiful scenery in Switzerland, as well as stopped at an antique store where Monica bought an antique cow bell. When we arrived in Kanderstag, Switzerland in late afternoon and had no trouble finding the hotel.  The name of the hotel is the Royal Park Hotel and it is surrounded by the Alps.  The view surrounding the hotel was breath taking.  It is rated as a five star hotel.

After taking some photos of the outside of the hotel, we went in and introduced ourselves to the front desk attendant and told them we were Riklis.  We were told that the Rikli family was in a meeting, but she would tell them we were here.  The attendant began to give us a tour of the hotel, when Beat Rickli came down.  He is the owner of the hotel and it has been in his family for five generations.  He spells his name with a "c" because of a paperwork error.  It was really fun getting to talk to one of our relatives. After chatting with Beat for a while we continued our tour of the hotel.  It was magnificent on the inside.  Each room was different with different furnishings and they had a spa and exercise room.  The rooms varied in price from 250 U.S. dollars a night to 750 dollars for a suite with a great view.

I am so thankful that we had the opportunity to see this hotel and to meet our distant relative Beat Rickli.
