My dad, Monica and my brother, Ben arrived in Prague on Friday, June 13th.  After picking them up at the airport and grabbing a bite to eat, we hopped in the car and headed for Germany.  We drove about half way and spent the night in a very cute hotel.  Little did we know that this would be the best German food we would eat on the trip.  Sitting beside us at dinner were five local German men that were very friendly.

The next morning we got up and drove to the black forest.  We stayed in Todtmoos, Germany which is a cute little town right in the center of the black forest.  We stayed here for one week.  Each day we would take excursions to different parts of the black forest and one day we went into Switzerland to see the hotel owned by relatives of the Rikli family (see next blog entry).  The black forest is very pretty.  There were a lot of open meadows with cute houses.  All of the houses were immaculate with pretty flowers in the window boxes and fire wood stacked very neatly.

We did a couple of hikes, one of them a short hike into a waterfall.  It was a pretty hike.  We did a hike just through the black forest, which was pretty also.  Ben enjoyed his little off the trail adventure.

We also went to a town that had ancient Roman ruins and a hot spring pool.  We enjoyed the lazy river circle in the pool.

For the most part my dad enjoyed the German food, however at the end of seven days Monica and I were ready for something besides schnitzel and salad.  There were a few occasions where we couldn't understand the German menus and ended up food that was less than desirable.  The funniest was when Monica and Ben ordered a Bratwurst and they ended up with a boiled hot dog with no bun or side dishes.  I got a good laugh out of that one.
