Joe has been dealing with some business problems in Malaysia for quite some time now.  One day in mid April, he was told to go home and pack and get on the next flight out to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  I talked Joe into buying me a ticket to join him and three days later, I was there.  I arrived on a Saturday afternoon.  Joe was working so he arranged for a driver to pick me up at the airport with a little sign and everything, it was pretty cool.  Riding to the hotel was nice, with nice roads and freeways, but it took me a while to get used to driving on the wrong (left) side of the road.  The weather was hot and humid, which felt great after being in Prague for so long.  I am definitely more of a warm-weather girl, so I enjoyed the heat.

The first night I was there, we decided to head into the city to see the Petronis Towers.  The buildings were seen in the movie Entrapment with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones.  At one point they were the second highest buildings in the world.  At the bottom of the towers is a mall, so we walked around there until the rain died down.  Then we went out and took pictures of the towers.  It was really cool seeing them in person.

After checking out the towers, we went over to meet Carrey (who works for DHL in Kuala Lumpur) and her husband Alex.  With Joe and I were Jake (from the U.S. and working with Joe, Jake was born in the Philippines) and Lubos (from Prague, also working with Joe).  All of us went to a place called The Sky Bar, which is on the top floor of a hotel and overlooks the towers.  It was a very cool bar and it had a spectacular view.  We had fun hanging out and enjoying the view.

Most of the time we were in Malaysia, Joe was working.  That means I had to find ways to entertain myself and I did.  I laid out in the sun, I got a massage and facial, it was great.  The first hotel we stayed at was in Cyberjaya, which is by DHL.  It was very nice with a nice pool and spa, but it was very isolated.  There weren't any restaurants or anything close by. After a few days, we decided to move closer into the city and stayed at the Sunway.  It was great.  It had a fabulous pool and workout facility.  It was connected to a mall and there were plenty of restaurants around.  I had a great time there, working out and hanging by the pool.

There are primarily three races in Kuala Lumpur:  Malay, Chinese and Indian.  The primary religion here is Muslim.  Overall I found the people to be very friendly and most people spoke English, which was nice.  Kuala Lumpur is very Westernized, with huge malls and American restaurants.  They even have Chili's.   The T.V. and radio was in English with American shows.  Even though things were Westernized, there were some things that weren't, for example, the Eastern toilets.  This is basically a hole in the ground with a hose, instead of toilet paper.  I tried to avoid them, but did get stuck using one once.  It wasn't real fun.

We did go out one night with a coworker of Joe's, Chee Chong.  Chee Chong is Chinese and took us to a Chinese restaurant by his house.  This was not a touristy Chinese restaurant as everything was actually in Chinese.  Joe informed me that I had to eat everything that was put on my plate.  I about died when the second dish was a fish with the head still on it and its teeth showing.  I'm not a big fish eater anyway, so this was a struggle for me, but I ate it.  We also ate some of the biggest prawns I have ever seen.  After dinner, Chee Chong took us to China Town and we walked around and did a little shopping.
