Skiing in in the Alps

At the end of February, my friend, Kim came out to visit. We did the touristy thing in Prague and we also journeyed to Berlin (even though I had just been there). After returning from Berlin, we spent a few days relaxing in Prague and then it was off to Switzerland for a ski trip.
We stayed in a quaint little village called Grindelwald, which is about an eight hour drive from Prague. Grindelwald is a great little village with beautiful scenery of the Alps and great shopping. There were tons of Swiss watches, Swiss Army knives and of course, Swiss chocolates. We had a blast shopping everyday after hitting the slopes. Speaking of skiing, we also had fun out on the white stuff. We skied four days in a row, which is the most I've skied in a long time. My legs got very tired by the fourth day, but it was still fun. The conditions weren't' great, as Europe has not seen the kind of snow that Colorado has gotten this year. We weren't able to ski to the bottom as there was not enough snow, so we took the gondola back down. Even though there was not much snow, there was plenty of sunshine. The restaurants on the slopes had lawn chairs to relax on so we could catch some rays on our face. It was great.
On Wednesday, however, we didn't see much sun, but rather fog. It was really cool at the top of the mountain, however it made for some very difficult skiing. The fog lightened by night time and we decided to try a "sledge run" down the mountain. We rented a sled and took a train half way up the mountain. We then had a fondue dinner consisting of cheese, bread and potatoes and sled back down the mountain. Joe and Kim seemed to catch on quick and zoomed down the mountain. I on the other hand, struggled a bit, lost my sled a couple times, but finally made it down the mountain. Overall, we had a fun few days hanging out in the Alps. Grindelwald is an awesome place and I would definitely like to go back sometime.
