On Saturday, we drove about one hour from Brussels to a town called Brugge.  It is known as the "Venice of the North"  as there is a canal system here also.  We haven't been to Venice yet, but Joe and Jan had and they said it wasn't really quite like Venice, but it was still nice.

Brugge is a quaint little town with a town square, much like Brussels, with old buildings.  There are cafes and little shops around that are nice to browse through.  The canal system runs through the town and they have little boats that you can pay to go out on the canals.  Unlike Venice, there are no gondolas.

We walked around the town and checked out the town square where we sat down and had lunch.  After lunch, we did some shopping and then went on a boat ride through the city.  It was nice.  We spent most of the day there and then drove back to Brussels for dinner.  It was a nice little day trip and we had fun touring this quaint little city.
