When I first moved to Prague, I didn't know what to expect. My husband, Joe had been over here several times prior to moving, but my first look at the city, was the day I moved here.  Driving from the airport to our flat in Vinohrady (subdivision of Prague, also called Prague 2) was a little unnerving.  There was graffiti every where, including on my front door.  I was definitely not used to that, coming from Scottsdale, Arizona. My first night here, Joe took me to Old Town and across Charles Bridge.  It was beautiful.  The view of Prague Castle at night was unbelievable.  I still love going down there at night.

The longer I've been here, the more I am enjoying the city. The architecture here is unbelievable. Unlike most European cities, Prague was spared during both world wars.  There is a very "old" feel to the city with the narrow, cobble stone streets  and the buildings from the 13th and 14th centuries.   I still like going to the touristy areas, like Old Town Square and Charles Bridge, but I also like walking around Vinohrady.  Although we do have a car, we don't use it much while getting around the city.  There is a great public transportation system here with metros and trams.

I am really enjoying the restaurants here in Prague.  Although I'm not crazy about the typical Czech cuisine of goulash and  cooked game, I do like most of the restaurants here.  One dish that I didn't think I'd like, but I do, is beef tar tare.  This is uncooked beef with a raw egg on top.  It's delicious. There's a restaurant here that we really like, called La Cantina.  It's a Mexican restaurant, or "Czexican" as we like to call it.  But, it is really good and gives us a little piece of home.  The beer here is really cheap.  In fact, it is cheaper than water.  This (along with the abundance of strip bars) attracts "stag" parties or bachelor parties.  These parties usually involve rambunctious men (usually from Britain) that like to go around singing weird songs wherever they go.  It is quite annoying.

With its central location in Europe, Prague makes for a great home base for traveling.  We hope to travel as much as possible over the next two years.  I know I'm excited for this adventure of a life time.
