For me the drive down to Seatac was fine, only task I had was to stay awak so it was easier on Vlad. As soon as I dropped them off, thats when my adventure really started.
I was exhausted but I figured that once I get on the road, turn up the music, and watch the GPS i would be fine. WELL, this is how it really happened.
I got in the car, set my GPS to my cousin's address, and began to drive out. I paid for parking, was told to turn right, then head straight
My frist thought of driving by myself was extremly overwhelming. I thought to myself "whoa! slow down, let me take a breather" It was a 5 lane in one direction highway and cars of all sized were zooming down. Eventhough I was driving my mom's Dodge Caravan, I felt like an ant.
After 15 minutes of driving, I started to recognize some places. Finally I made it to Alona's place. My nerves were all over the place. I couldn't stop smiling, I was so excited to see her.
She opens the door, and as I look at her I see the same face that I remember from when we were 15. The hair is still styled as if she hasn't skipped a day, yet at the same time she's all grown up. We sat for about 3 hours catching up 5 years that we missed, then around noon, her parents and brother, my "baby" cousin Lior, joined us.
HE has a GREAT personality. He's funny, talks a lot, and always has something funny to say
Afterwards while straigting our hair like we used to in the old days, we realized that we missed out on a lot, from growing up as kids in Israel, to teens in Vancouver and going through our competitive phase, we really scratched out 5 years of arguments, and disagreements, and just simply arrived as this stage; the stage a like to think of as 'We're now grown up, and we don't judge how the other's person leads their life. We accept eachother's ups and downs.
It was a great feeling that made me feel connected, made me feel that finally our family has been reunited.
That night, Alona introduced me to her boyfriend and the three of us and one of his friends went out to a club. As unforutante as the US legal age is, there are clubs in Seattle that are for 18 year olds. It wasn't bad, music was alright, and most importantly the people were quite different. Instaed of being intoxicated and under the influence of whatever substance people find here in Vancouver, the kids in Seattle were talkative and fun to talk to.
At the end of the night, we got in to bed like we used to when we were little, and stayed up chatting to make the eachother fall asleep
In the morning I was honestly happy to have made the trip out. Again, thanks to my mom. :)
On the drive out, I was anxious and a bit worried because I've been on the road on my own and a trip like this. I was worried that I would get tired, or bored and of course, car trouble. (memories of my latest road trip) Although in the end, the trip was wonderful, there was a wait of one hour at the Canada-US border which hit me hard and made the last 40 minutes the most challenging, but not terrible. I got home, and now, I'm back to the daily routines and awaiting my next trip.
Australia here I come!!!!!
