we decide that there is just ´something´up with san pedro.  neither of us can put our finger on it, but it just doesnt feel right.  the whole water front is aimed at travellers, and alot of them have settled here.  we wandered up to the main village on the hillside because the locals never seem to come down to the waterfront.  noticing this we decide to move on.

not before we have a nightmare with luke´s bank.  dont go with natwest.  they dont allow you to do your own online transfers..and when we rang them to set it up they told luke he needed to come in and show his passport etc...erm...we are in central america...honestly..the problems with banks we have had!

we catch a short boat shuttle around the lake to san marcos.  known for an area where a lot of hippies have landed and stayed.  there are a lot of places you can do yoga, maeditate and find your soul again.  i had contemplated coming here on my own, but lukey and i find peace in each others company..so no need to fork out a fortune to sit and hum and bend our bodies into outragiuous twister positions whilst the old lady with hairy armpits farts beside you.....

we do find a good hostel , which is a lot more expensive than san pedro, but we already notice this place is more beautiful and relaxed, so we pay up after me bartering the chica down a little... we do get breakfast and the use of kayakes....

now..the kayakes... well, i have to admitt i nearly peed myself laughing at lukey ... we laughed at the size of the kayak..probably went upto lukeys chest...and we were told they could get 3 people in... well, again this brought the giggles...but since they think they can fit a whole family onto a moped..then we decide to give it a go.  we are lucky that our beautiful hostel feeds onto the lake and we carry it down to the waterfront.  lukey tries to get in, and falls in..pants soaked and all... at least i know our kids will adore ´daddy´playing it silly...even whens he is trying to be cool.  on me trying to sit in the back ...it sinks..and luke gets even more wet.... oh i am so bad... it still makes me smile.  i sent him off happily on his own for a few minutes... but we decided the best way for us to both sit in it, was to place it on top of the dock..... and then sit on it... we enjoyed the view and i didnt get wet!

we were able to walk round the bay and find some rocks which you could jump off.  we were just building ourselves to do a run and bomb when a local snorkeller was wavinghis finger at us..so we retreated thinking he knew best.  but after spending a day sunbathing and swimming in the clearest and bluest water some others came and jumped...we were gutted and vowed we would come back the next day....we unfortunately didnt...gutted...but there will be higher an better jumps to be had we are sure.

we ate some great food in san marcos.  we were in heaven.  yes more expensive, but worth it.  one night we stumbled across a small cafe where the owner said pizzas were  being made.  we ordered one and devoured a fresh based goats cheese pizza a short while later, after i had taught lukey his first game of chess....
we also went to a local italian´s opening night.  it was fantastic.  fresh vegetarian lasagne, salad and veg..all  served up with the sofest bread and the nicest chilly dip.  we spent a few hours there chatting to others and enjoyed a few beers.

we enjoyed our stay at san marcos and recommend it to anyone.  much better than san pedro, and the food is all organic.... of course.... maybe a little bit of hipiness rubbed off on us?
