our journey from livingston to puerto barrios and down to the lake again goes so smoothly. one boat, one chicken bus and a collectivo later we land in a quiet little village off the beaten track again. on the oppposite saide from el estor, but a lot friendlier, kids wave and adults say hello.
not alot to do, really just waiting. no halloween celebration like last year. we sit and reminice about what we have done, as luke arrives on monday, and matt and i will be parting. he will we travelling for 3 more weeks on his own then heading home.
i just cant wait for lukey, and keep checking the time every five minutes....hurry up monday!
i head out for a walk on sunday morning. so glad i did. i grab a short collectivo ride along to a local beach , which doesnt work out as pretty as i hoped, but i walk back, behind some local women. i even antertain myself as i grab a quick short that explains the variety of transport you see on the local roads... check out the owman walking for miles, carrying her produce on her head... to the local horses, which arent tied or chained, or fenced in..welcome to wander anywhere...here they are just stood in the main road in the shade...then there is a scooter, which has 4 people on it...2 adults, and two children sat on the front...madness... to top it off, matt and i grab a collectivo an hour later, which should be made for just 12 people MAX!...but we end up counting 33 people in it!!
we go down to the local ruins, which are meant to have the best stalea in the country, and mayan history. we have to hitch a ride down a 4km track which is surrounded by banana trees...i have never seen so many bananas! must be billions, further than we can see...its quite cool to be able to see the trees where my food comes from.
the ruins are cool. there are some rocks 8m high, with carvings on over 2000 years old, as good as new. there are animals such as frogs, serpents and mythical creatures. we dodge the many moskitos, and wander for a short time, as it is getting dark.
i will leave out what happened after, but the only advice i can give other travellers is check when the last bus home is...or hope the local police are there to pick you up!
